The MassAccess Board of Directors met this Wednesday, August 14th, and we had a lot to cover.  Whether or not you want to believe it, summer is almost over and fall is just around the corner.  For MassAccess that means we have our Fall Meet and Greet series to plan as well as a more active period in the legislative cycle coming up.

Before we got into our upcoming events, we had a financial update from Treasurer Michael Lynch.  He gave a summary of our major expenses, which are primarily related to lobbying for the streaming bill through O’Neil and Associates.  Please note, that bill is no longer HD. 4389, but has been renamed to H. 4045.

Board member Jonathan Grabowski was up next with an update on the Fall Meet and Greet Series.  We’re excited to report that we have final dates and locations for the events. We’ll be at Dracut Access Television on October 15th, Falmouth Community Television on October 16th, and Easthampton Media on October 17th.  Expect to have a chance to discuss regulatory issues such as the FCC in-kind ruling as well as the details of Bill H. 4045 as well as other professional development opportunities. The subcommittee for the Meet and Greets will be hard at work over the next few weeks and months finalizing all the details to make these events a success.  Thanks to Telvue, the Official MMX Technical Partner, for their support for the Fall Meet and Greet Series!

After the Meet and Greet update, Board President Melinda Garfield, provided an update on legislation.  The major news is that Bill H. 4045 has been referred to the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy.  Since we’re still in the summer, we’re in a bit of a holding pattern, but expect more guidance on next steps coming up in the fall.  And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to join our First Friday Policy Call to get a more detailed update on the status of our legislative efforts.
